Miro Semberac (Serbian Cyrillic: Миро Семберац; born 4 March 1953) is a Serb folk singer. He is best known for his wartime music.
Early Life
Miro was born on the 4th of March in 1953 in the city of Bijeljina, SFR Yugoslavia (present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina). In 1966, he would graduate from Tehnička škola "Mihajlo Pupin".[1]
Career
While Semberac's music career is unknown pre-war, he began publishing albums during the war in Bosnia. In 1993, he would release two albums under the independent label SuperTon: Puče puška na sred Semberije and Srbi svoju državu stvoriše. In the same year, two music videos from the former were produced and featured in the VHS compilation Koktel br. 1.
Post-War Career
After the war in 1996, Semberac released Kako da te sutra zovem under the Bijeljina-based label, Renome.[2]
In 2006, Semberac was unofficially featured as the eighth contestant in the first edition of the Croat-produced Eurovision parody, Četnovizija. The program showcased his music video for "Jadna Bosno suverena" under the name "Džamije lete" (lit. "Mosques are flying") and credited him as "Momčilo".[3] The reason for these changes are unknown.
In 2018, following the release of fan remasters of "Jadna Bosno suverena" and "Puče puška na sred Semberije" by Naša Srpska Arhiva, international interest of his wartime career became mainstream.
While he has not made any more albums since 1996, he had live performances as recently as the late 2010's.[4] It is currently unknown if he is still performing or is now retired.
